Heat the oven to 320°F (160°C). Lightly butter a rectangular pan or line it with parchment paper.
Mix the softened butter and brown sugar for 1–2 minutes, just until evenly combined and creamy.
Add the sifted flour in a few additions. The mixture may look crumbly; if it holds when pressed, you’re good.
Transfer the dough to the pan. Press it down firmly into an even layer using your hand or a spatula.
Bake for 25–30 minutes. Pull it out when the edges are lightly golden; don’t let it brown too much.
Let it sit for 5 minutes, then score and cut into 42 pieces while still warm. Cool completely in the pan before serving.
