In a small deep pan, heat enough vegetable oil over medium heat for frying. Do not let it smoke.
In a large bowl combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until even.
Stir in the beaten egg, milk, 1 tbsp oil and honey until you have a smooth, pourable batter.
Pat sausages dry with paper towel; wet sausages won't hold the batter, so make sure they are dry.
Insert a skewer into each sausage and make sure it is secure. If skewers were halved, position the cut side inward.
Pour batter into a tall glass, dip each skewered sausage so it is fully coated, and let excess drip off before frying.
Fry the coated sausages, turning, until all sides are golden about 2–3 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
