In a large bowl, beat the butter and margarine for 1–2 minutes until smooth. Scrape down the sides so everything blends evenly.
Add the cream cheese and beat again until fully creamy with no lumps. Keep mixing just until it looks uniform.
Add the instant vanilla pudding mixes. Pour in the cold milk gradually while whisking/beating so it stays smooth. Mix 2–3 minutes and let it thicken slightly.
Add the whipped topping in a few additions. Fold gently with a spatula (not a mixer) to keep the mixture light and airy.
Spoon into a serving bowl or individual cups. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours so it sets. Serve cold, smoothing the top right before serving.
