Pick through the cranberries and give them a quick rinse. Set a small pot on the stove.
Add the water and sugar to the pot. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves.
Stir in the cranberries and bring to a gentle boil. Stir occasionally so nothing sticks.
Simmer for about 10–15 minutes, until many berries burst and the sauce looks glossy and lightly thickened. Lower the heat if it starts to foam up.
Take it off the heat and let it cool; it will thicken as it sits. Give it a final stir before serving.
